Description
Whey is the liquid that remains after milk has been turned into cheese. Its composition varies depending on the type of cheese made. Sometimes it’s acidic, like with yogurt, while other times it’s sweet, like our Berloumi whey.
Milk contains two types of proteins: casein (82%), which ends up in the cheese, and whey proteins (18%), which stay behind with most of the milk sugars in the whey. In the kitchen, you can use whey anywhere you’d normally use water—add it to soups and sauces like a broth, blend it into milkshakes and ice cream, or cook pasta and rice in it.
We even use it to bake this delicious bread! You can buy our whey at the shop in our Zuivelarij. Just ask for it—we’ll fill a 5-liter jug for you. It costs only €3, or just €2 if you bring back your own clean jug.
