The batter is slightly thinner and should rise for an hour. Crumpets bake in a metal ring on a griddle. Usually crumpets are fried on one side only, but in <a href=\"https:\/\/dezuivelarij.be\">De Zuivelarij<\/a> we don&#8217;t do that. When you bake them without cooking rings, the crumpets don&#8217;t look as pretty, but they are still delicious. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-column1-3\/5 is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/labneh.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Crumpets-met-zalmeitjes-en-labneh-1140x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1861\" width=\"615\" height=\"369\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-beslag-maken\"><strong>Making the batter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">In <strong>510<\/strong> <strong>grams of<\/strong> <strong>lukewarm<\/strong> <strong>water<\/strong>, dissolve <strong>5<\/strong> <strong>grams of<\/strong> <strong>dry<\/strong> <strong>yeast<\/strong> and <strong>3<\/strong> <strong>grams of<\/strong> <strong>sugar<\/strong>. To do this, use a large enough bowl, as the batter will rise in it later. Also add <strong>460<\/strong> <strong>grams of<\/strong> <strong>white<\/strong> <strong>bread flour<\/strong>, then stir everything well until you have a homogeneous batter.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Then set the batter aside to rise for an hour. Normally the batter rises quickly, and then collapses again afterwards. It should be like this. After an hour, add <strong>10 grams of salt<\/strong>, and stir everything well together. At the end, dissolve another <strong>10 grams of baking powder<\/strong> in <strong>180 grams of whole milk<\/strong>. You then add that to the batter. Now stir well again, and bake. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-crumpets-bakken\"><strong>Baking the crumpets<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-column2-1\/1\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/labneh.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Crumpets-bakken-570x570.jpg\" alt=\"crumpets baking\" class=\"wp-image-1869\"\/><figcaption>On a large rimless baking sheet, you can bake many crumpets at once<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-column2-1\/1\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/labneh.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Gebakken-crumpet-Groot-570x570.jpg\" alt=\"Crumpets baking, crumpets\" class=\"wp-image-1873\"\/><figcaption>A crumpet as it should be, with the characteristic holes in the batter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">We bake crumpets on a <strong>heavy<\/strong> <strong>cast iron<\/strong> <strong>plate<\/strong> that we place on our induction stovetop. That way we can bake a lot of them at the same time. Don&#8217;t have a one of those at home? Then use a <strong>non-stick pan<\/strong>, it works just as well! Grease 1 or more cooking rings, and place them on the hot pan. Then spoon the batter into the rings, and <strong>bake the crumpets for about 10 minutes<\/strong>. When the batter has solidified on top, flip the crumpets and bake for another <strong>2 minutes<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">If you want lots of little <strong>holes<\/strong> in the crumpet (as they should have) then the batter itself should not be too thick. Usually they are eaten with butter, but they are also great with our <a href=\"http:\/\/labneh.be\">Labneh<\/a>. Let the crumpets cool slightly and put a big scoop of <strong>Labneh<\/strong> on top. Finish with fresh herbs. We had a little <strong>lump fish egg<\/strong> left in the fridge and put that on too. Or serve as brunch with an <strong>egg<\/strong>.
